1968 510 doors and guts interchange

I have a 68 510 wagon and the drivers door is a little rough. I have heard that 68 doors and guts are a little different than 69-72 doors. My 68 guts are in nice shape. Can I pick up a 69-72 door and swap the handle and guts over to the newer shell? Will it all line up? Is there really much difference between the year models? This car is mostly original and I would like to keep it as pure as possible.

I have heard the same thing about the doors 

I know for a fact the mechanisms are different    the outside door handle will work and the interior guts might work but it depends on mounting locations for pieces
