RatPatrol720
Hey guys! I've been reading for a while now and decided to join in. I got a 1983 Datsun 720 King Cab from a friend for $600 a few years back. I was originally going to drive it all the time, and ended up doing something differently. But I kept coming back to the Datsun. It needed a lot of work, but it started Every Single Time, even when I'd let it sit for months. So I finally put some work and time into it. Oh and lots of $$$! Here's what it looked like when I got it. Note how unhappy my kids look. "It's a piece of crap Dad!" Here's where I'm at now... More to follow soon. Oh and anybody got a good idea for e-brake? I can't find a cable anywhere and I'm out in the middle of nowhere to boot! Quote Link to comment

RatPatrol720
Terminal rust, I decided it would be easier to go to a flatbed. Quote Link to comment
RatPatrol720
So, my son blew a head gasket on the 720 driving it without fluid. (like an idiot teen) I just picked it up at the shop where they replaced that and remilled a warped head. It idles great, but as I was driving acted as though there was water in the gas line. Sudden loss of power and backfiring but it remained running for the most part. Just when I was going to turn around and head back to the shop, suddenly BAM it runs like a charm. So I decide it's the gas, fill it up with premium and head for home. Two miles later, same thing and I'm on the side of the road sputtering along. Then off we go again! So it does this all the way home. What is this? Loose vacuum line? Something hooked up wrong? I didn't take it apart so it's going to be tough for me to diagnose. Quote Link to comment
JoeCool
yeah, teenagers are stupid! One of my daughters dumbass friends ran his car for about 20 miles with NO oil. Pulls in my driveway to drop her off with engine knocking loudly. I checked the level, nothing on the stick. I didn't have any oil here, don't keep it, advised him to have someone else pick him up, go get some oil, and come back. Idiot drove off. Needless to say it locked up a couple of miles later!
