Dirttrack510
I have an L series 5 speed dog leg that is stuck in 1st gear and a z22 dog leg 5 speed that is rebuilt, but won't bolt up to a L series. Can I swap the guts out of the Z series case into the L series transmission case, to get 1 useable transmission? I'd hate to go back to a 4 speed. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Swap the L series front case half onto the Z series box and you're good to go. L series dogleg had wider gear ratios (same as the 510 sedan 4 speed but with over drive)... 1st.... 3.382 2nd... 2.013... 1st / 2nd shift... 40.5% 3rd... 1.312... 2nd / 3rd shift... 34.8% 4th... 1.000 5th... 0.854 Z series dogleg had closer gear ratios... 1st.... 3.170... 2nd... 1.921... 1st / 2nd shift... 39.4% 3rd.... 1.312... 2nd / 3rd shift... 32% 4th.... 1.000 5th.... 0.854 This places 1-2-3 closer together and with slightly less RPM drop between shifts. Not much but it's there. Quote Link to comment
