Carpartsmanual (http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun520/Datsun520521Index/Body/Emblems/tabid/1502/Default.aspx) makes no distinction on the grill for production up to Sept 1967. The photos on earlydatsun you referenced showed a "1965 Datsun 520 grille" with amber turn signals and no emblem. (My understanding was that there were no USA 1965 520s, 1966 was the first year.) The "1966 Datsun 520 grille" has clear turn signals and the emblem. The license plate is not in English, so it may not have been for US consumption. Well the research continues.
