sergio510
Looking for coilovers for a 72 datsun 510 not looking too spend too much but show me what you have Link to comment
ggzilla
The lowest price are the coilovers you already have. Datsun 510 uses large-diameter coilover springs. You can make them height adjustable by installing aftermarket threaded collars, $25 industrial shaft collars, or buy rewelding the stock spring perches lower. You can fit a variety of spring rates by swapping from other vehicles. Features: * variety of spring rates available * inexpensive * height-adjustable * can adjust for increased negative camber Cons: * afford slightly less room than aftermarket 2.25 coils * don't look as Bling as expensive aftermarket parts 1 Link to comment
LenRobertson
From the reading I've done, the cheap eBay ones are okay, if you really want coilovers: http://community.rat...rear-coilovers/ On my 510, I'm going to do what ggzilla suggests, mostly cause it is cheap and I am cheap: http://community.rat...1-280zx-struts/ Len Link to comment

ggzilla
Which part do you want to know about? Search youtube to get videos. There are lots of generic videos about this. Regarding coil Spring swaps -- not sure about Datsun 510 which is larger diameter than most datsun. Here are some Datsun-specific overviews with photos. Not 510-specific but will give the general idea. * Strut shortening * Lowering the spring seat * Lowering (for front strut Datsun) * Negative Camber for increased cornering power Link to comment
ggzilla
If you're short on time and have the money, Ground Control has small-diameter coilover kit for $200. One issue with this kit is they only have very firm springs with the kit. But maybe if you phone the order they can supply other springs for it. They have a large selection of springs. ajen68510
Can always Powder coat the stock ones after modifying with collers. Can give the Uber Bling factor. Link to comment

Uncut they are 500 pounds spring rate and provide an installed spring rate of 132 pounds (about 35 pounds above stock) You can trim them to lower the ride height and increase the rate further. ggzilla
I think you mean equivalent rate compared to a more standard suspension, because compared to most coil spring cars the 510 has the springs far inboard of the LCA (providing less leverage). The spring rated doesn't actually change, which you know but maybe some newbies will be confused. Link to comment
