280z Diff " to weld or not to weld "

ok thanks for the update..

the r180 came with these "shafts" the guy who gave it to me said it will fit the 510 stock axels..but i need to removed the " dust cover " ( round metal thing right next to the 4 bolts plate ) iim getting this right?

Also my the diff reads : JH 39:10 BB 14.7

that means i have the same that jeff have? 3.90?

The diff you have pictured here is a r200

its reads p60 on the case...so i have a r200?!

 

the R200 suppose to have a cover with fins? mine doesnt.

The picture you provided is a R200, don't go by the stamping, it's the physical size the denotes that diff being a R200. The R200 only has the finned rear cover on LSD models and even then not all the time.

The R160 is the smallest rear diff, the R180 is larger, the R200 is even larger.

The R200 in a 510 is a waste, way to big for almost anything. Try to find a R180.

The one major thing that gives that diff away it the fact it has no external side bearing cups, you'll notice that on the diff you have there, there is 4 bolts inside the diff when you pull the rear cover off....R160's and R180's do not have this.

You have a R200 in that picture.

Nothing to be confused about.
