Oldmasterzhu
Hello, I have an auto '73 240z. I'm getting a manual swap done soon and I was wondering....would the auto center console work with manual tranny? I've read that the auto console is exactly the same as a manual console except with the auto shifter plate on one forum, then on another forum I read that it wont work because the manual shift lever would hit the top of the auto center console unless I cut it. Can anyone clarify this for me? lol. Quote Link to comment
ISPKI
I am not 100% sure, but, my auto center console appears to be exactly the same as a manual center console in my 77 280z. Mine even has the slot for the manual choke I believe, despite being fuel injected. I am piecing together a MT swap as well, hopefully someone can confirm this. Quote Link to comment
San Maru
Try comparing part numbers. Quote Link to comment
Oldmasterzhu
Sorry, I am a complete newb lol. I don't know where to look for the part numbers. I'll probably shave the console a bit if it doesn't work with the manual shifter. I prefer not to though if anyone can clarify this for me :) Quote Link to comment
afbrian13
yes they are the same auto to manual. I have an "auto console" from a 78 in my 76 manual. Basically turn it over and look for some screws to remove the auto shift "dust plate." The manual's shift boot has some metal clips to hold it onto the console from underneath. Hope this helps! datzenmike
Up till August '73 the parts numbers for the basic plastic console are almost, but so close, they are virtually the same. The auto shifter should fit the manual hole no prob. The later '75 and up and the 2+2 are totally different. Quote Link to comment
afbrian13
right-when the dash style changed. lots of stuff is different from 240's and the rest, even though they look the same outside. Quote Link to comment
San Maru
The clips for the vinyl outer shift boot are expensive for what they are, if you get them new. If you can, collect 8 used ones from parts cars. Quote Link to comment
cdub42
we just finished the conversion in mine, auto console works just fine. Quote Link to comment
