oDufffODramAo
I'm looking to replace my rear axle in my 510. I'm not too sure on what car I should take one from. I know that I can get one from a 280Z. Which is the best to install? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The most compatible one is from another 510.... bolts right in. The 610 uses the same R-160 rear end and they will fit also. Quote Link to comment
oDufffODramAo
My problem is that I have an engine and transmission from a 1985 Nissan pickup truck (Z24). My 510 struggles to hit 75 miles per hour and I'm thinking it's the fact that I have a truck motor, meant for hauling. Maybe it's the final drive on the transmission too. I ask because I was told by my friends grandfather that it's possible that my rear axle isn't built for the power I have. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
A stock 510 with a small L16 will go that fast with the stock rear end. The Z24 will be making about 50% more power and at least twice the torque. If it can't go over 75 look elsewhere. Is the secondary opening on the carb? Both coils should be firing. Timing about 3 degrees BTDC? Valve clearance set? Quote Link to comment
BJW's FiveTen's
Do you know what ratio you have 4spd or 5spd. How many RPM's are you turning at 75? What size tires as well? Just trying to get some back story. Thanks Bryce Quote Link to comment
oDufffODramAo
Thank's a lot guys. I'm still getting used to my car, haha. I've had it for about 6 months so I'm still trying to get the feel for the whole thing. The problem is that I don't have an RPM gauge, and I do have a 5-speed. Quote Link to comment
BJW's FiveTen's
With stock tires say 155/70-13 with 4.37 gears, at 75mph would still only be about 5200 Rpm with a 4spd . Most dimes have 3.90 ratio so I'm thinking its something in your engine setup. Quote Link to comment
oDufffODramAo
Yup. The only thing I can imagine would be that. I'd have to get someone to help me with it. Thank's a lot man :) Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
155/70R13 which is 21.8" diameter going '75 in 4th gear would only be 4508 RPMs As this was a Z24 and there were no '85 4 speeds this must have the 5 speed from the truck which has a ratio of 0.833 and this would drop the RPMs to 3755. The 155/70R13 seems a little small but??? Any tire with a larger diameter would have an even lower RPM at 75. Quote Link to comment
