Replacing tension arm bushings

Since I am replacing my upper and lower ball joints, I though it would be wise to replace some other badly worn suspension components as well. I bought some new bushings for the tension rods and am wondering how they are replaced. Does the truck have to be up on jack stands for them them to be able to be unbolted? I know the bolts that attach them to the lower contol arms also attach the ball joints there but I'm not sure. Thanks!
