L engine coupled with R4W63 transmission, posible???

Hi!Im thinking about to get a L engine, pointing to a L20B in the best case, but if i get a L16 or L18 will be OK. But this is the problem, is posible to couple the R4W63 transmission that come with the J13 engine to any of these engines? or should i necessarily put the transmission "F4W63" if i'm not mistaken? But I want to keep the columm shift thats sure. Thanks!!!

the J motor has a different bell housing.. the l-series is going to need the F4w63 or other l-series trans.

 

you might be able to fashion some sort adapter plate so you can retain the stock trans with the column shift when you go to the L motor.

Look for an L motor with a transmission and make a hole in the tunnel for the shifter.

Or take the front case from the L-63 and use it with your J13 transmission. It's too bad the L16 doesn't just bolt right in.

Unfortunately the L front case is pretty much everything but the tailstock and I don't think it has any provision for the remote shifter which comes in from the side. ?

Wait ... I have one in the bed of my pickup. ... you are correct, there is no front case. Just case + extension.

If you look on the case down near the bottom pan there are round castings on each side. I think these are machined out and a shift rod run through from side to side to mount the shift forks on. ??
