hitch
Do I pry at A or B Do the bolts C need to be removed? Once again, pry the axel at the housing cover or on the housing sub assembly? A Or B ? I need to get the boots replaced on this axle, and the FSM just says "Extract drive shaft from differential carrier by prying it with a suitable steel bar. Car is 1983 maxima Quote Link to comment
hitch
Mike, B in the picture or the line drawing? Sorry, I should have checked my labeling. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I removed an R-200 once and the axles just pop out. Used a pry bar and just inserted at B above between the turning part of the half shaft and the flange on the diff with the four small "C" bolts on it. A quick snap of the wrist and out she comes. Might be wise to drain first or you'll look like a porn star. Quote Link to comment
hitch
I want to thank Mike, for the useful assistance in removing the axle's. I used the large screwdriver to move the axle just slightly away from the differential. Then used my pry bar to extract the axle. It took quite a bit of force to extract it. I was going to replace the boots myself, but due to a large list of honeydoos this week, I'm using a local rebuilder. They quoted me $110 each and about 2hour turn around. This would be much easier with a lift, but the jack stand on your back method worked for me. I'll show a picture of the pry bar and extracted axle's for your viewing pleasure. See the busted boot, grease inside was clean End of axle shows no signs of wear, good! I put the manual there to give a reference of the pry bar size While there, I replaced a damaged stud that had been cross threaded at some time past. Quote Link to comment
hitch
Here are the completed Remanufactured axles, all done in about 3 hours. Total price for both was $147 and the came with a 2 year 24k mile warranty. Seems like they did a really nice job and the price was very good. I don't think parts other than new boots were required, but they cleaned and inspected all bearing surfaces. The name of the company that did the work is (CV Source, Bufford, GA) 1 Quote Link to comment
