ggzilla
Yes, they should hold up the hatch just fine. But at about 10 years they generally get too weak to do it. Quote Link to comment
1arky
should it spring up on it's own after its unlocked? Quote Link to comment
RAlly_DatoB210
should it spring up on it's own after its unlocked? Not that I know of? I have an aluminum stick and no shocks for mine. My friend drew used the home depot fix and got two gas shocks for a screen door and used them to hold up the hatch. Worked Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
should it spring up on it's own after its unlocked? No, it will not spring up on its own. The gas-charged struts hold it up, no stick needed if they are still good. Quote Link to comment
1arky
so there like an asist/helper Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
You don't need to assist them to hold it up -- they should hold up the hatch all by themselves. Datsuns don't have a power-hatch or power-trunk-lid like some of the new cars do. The lid/hatch is manual. The struts hold it open after you open it ... Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
You have to haul the lid open with some resistance in the first few degrees of motion. The lifts also serve to hold the lid down in the closed position. Closing is generally a good tug to get started if the lifts retain enough gas to really work. Easily replaced, manufacturers say 2 man job but an easy one man job, just brace when the first lift is removed. Quote Link to comment
molly210
I had an issue with this for a while with my 210 hatch. kept having to prop it up and it drove me nuts. I got new lift supports from O'Reilly's but theirs weren't strong enough to hold it up either. Had to get them from RockAuto (which was cheaper anyway). Kind of a pain to get them in, but now just a light lift and the hydraulics do the rest. Quote Link to comment
JDOM310
anyone have the hardware for a 1980 210 lift support , need hardware for shocks and brackets .... rod holding it up is getting old. Quote Link to comment
