Norcal 78 280Z build

SO my dad s had the car for about 25 years and 2 years ago he gave the Z to me. I had started doing little minor fixes to get it all working perfectly again. Then i decided it was time to pull it apart and paint it. what i thought to be a year long side project turned into 2 years and counting.

 

Heres some pics in relatively the order ive worked in.

 

when i first started

The first day i decided to start doing bodywork

what looked like a clean fender

ended up finding a nice bit of rust that needed patching

rocker needed some help as well

caused by a leak in the hatch somewhere

patched the fender(did ok for my first time but it still rough)

then it looked like this

until i decided to ditch the side markers

also ditched the molding that came with the car(stripe was just to cover up the bare metal,its ugly i know)

got the 240z wheel to work with the 280z hornpad

then i POR15 coated the rust that was on the inner fenders

now they look like this after a few coats of spray on rubberized under coating

oh and inbetween all this i used glass stain spray to do this

Thought it looked pretty cool

 

ive done some more to it i just dont have pics but ill take some and keep you guys up to speed

Lucky you, that's one nice Z your dad gave you! Make sure you treat it as nice as he obviously did :thumbup:

Fix the rust, keep the electrical connections clean, and go pick up girls with a cool '70s sports car!. Then go add a turbo, lower it, flare it, big brake kit, coil-overs, etc, etc, etc...
