bryant2482
im thinking about dropping out my 5 speed on my 720 this weekend. the 5th gear isnt working. im assuming it should be an easy fix. i would like to know when it comes time to opening up the transmission do i have to worry about any springs and other pieces flying out when taking off the tail shaft end? datzenmike
Remove the speedo pinion. After thinking about it nothing else need be removed. Place tranny on front end and support vertically. Remove the case bolts. Place shifter loosely into the transmission end and place in neutral and hold shifter over toward the 5th/ reverse side or clockwise as seen from above. Tap upward on tailstock with hammer and lift off. . Quote Link to comment
bryant2482
you mean the little plastic speedo drive gear that is connected to the cable? what about the small pin up by the shifter? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
That stuff should lift off with the tailstock. Only the speedo pinion gear is engaged to the output main shaft.... and it would probably just turn when you remove it, and release. Quote Link to comment
