Ron did the solder repair that old float OK?

So the replacement is the black unit?

Yes, that's correct... the one on the left is the new one.

Did the solder repair that old float OK? I can't answer that. It appears that one of the floats may have been leaking (gas leaking into the float) when I bought it. The other float, also soldered, was working fine. I don't know how long before I bought the truck that they were soldered.

One observation... If you are going to solder your floats, leave a small hole on the top of the float untill last. Do your soldering. Let it cool. Then solder up the small hole on top. One of the floats has a collapsed bottom (It's concave not convex, convex is normal). I can only think that it was convex after being soldered but collapsed as it cooled.

Suggest that you put your offer up with it's own topic. You might get more exposure than here. Good luck. :)
