NCLNDYM Posted December 11, 2011 Report Share Posted December 11, 2011 have stock tach in my 72 510, the needle jumps around and doesn't go above 5000. i sit possible to repair this or is it toast...causes rough idle and stalling occasionally, finally disconnected it and car runs better Quote Link to comment

datzenmike Posted December 11, 2011 Report Share Posted December 11, 2011 Poor or erratic tach operation can most often be the points bouncing or burnt and making intermittant contact. A poorly grounded dizzy, loose or worn points and condenser, loose wire to the coil, between the coil and the ballast, bad ballast, or wiring to the ignition. Anything that might cause intermittent contact will cause the tach to jump high or drop. Quote Link to comment
