MikeRL411
Remember "Shogun" the novel by James Clavell and its TV version? "Anjin-San" was real, an Englishman named William Adams who became a Hatamoto [personal retainer] to the first modern Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, was rewarded with a feif [territory] South of Tokyo called Miura. He was an agent for the Dutch East India Company, built ships and traded with Okinawa and the Philipines until the Shogunate closed that window. On his recomendation, the Shogun expelled all Christian missionaries. His Japanese name is therefor Miura, Anjin-san. He and his Japanese wife are buried on a hill overlooking the sea just West of the naval base at Yokuska. Quote Link to comment
