Zfighter76
do all l series mounts work on all l series engines? i will be doing a l28 swap into my 620, and though there is a well documented swap by topless620, i will be taking a different approach with the mounting and use the original mounting position to maintain use of normal radiator position and mechanical fan. i will be cutting the firewall and making a gear selector linkage to move it forward to the correct position, anyways, anyone know if i can use 280z mounts on a 620 and vise versa? Zfighter76
anyone? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
no one want to talk to you since you are cutting a 620 ... :) But yes, the rubber isolators are all compatible. The engine brackets are a bit different but will bolt up the same. Quote Link to comment
Zfighter76
ok thanks, yeah i understand the whole not wanting to cut datsun metal thing, but this isnt a restoration so what can i say. plus i like to stick to period correct power. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I think the L28-powered pickup is cool. Good on ya. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
1973-1974 620 engine mount isolators are like this: 1975-1978 620 mounts are like this: Quote Link to comment
Willdatsun
L28 seems like a really bad choice due to length, surely a VG30 from pathfinder etc would be lighter, more compact, more powerful, more fuel efficient and you won't have to hack the tunnel to pieces (i presume) at least not as much, are there any VG powered trucks on here? ggzilla
But VG30 is not a straight six. An L6 (inline six) is perfectly balanced. The VQ30 has balance shafts, are there any VGs that have them? Plus they don't sound the same. BMW still loves the straight six. Quote Link to comment
Zfighter76
plus the inline six looks somewhat stock to the untrained eye. some might pass by and not notice that its not an l16, the valve cover is so close. also the wiring of the vg series is more complicated and i like the inline 6 torque and sound. the v6 thing is just too new-fangled to me and i dont wanna have to get custom mounts. and the firewall cutting is fairly simple, just hack a big hole, drop in the engine, and weld sheet metal to cover the engine. only thing thats hard is getting the custom drive-shaft and thats, what, 1-2 hundred bucks? oh yeah and modify the trans cross member to have a different mount position. oh yeah, and i have an l28 with less than 30k miles so thats a plus too. (and the whole car, hint hint, that suspension will one day find its way onto the truck chassis maybe next year Quote Link to comment
Zfighter76
1975-1978 620 mounts are like this: so i would use thes rubber mounts with the stock metal mounts on the l28 right? Quote Link to comment
