atkinson40
Got my 4 speed reinstalled after getting it back from the re-builders. $300 in Mexico. Quoted $850 here in the states. Puppy is tight. They fixed the shifter looseness also. What I noticed was a chatter that was not eliminated. Sounds like it could be the speedometer cable?? Only happens at some speeds. I've got no carpet and the shifter hole open so I can hear everything. Tranny shifts up and down all gears now w/o grinding. Guess I could unhook the cable and see if it goes away. Any maintenance to be done on that cable? -K Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Use a powdered graphite or one with molybdenum-disulphide in it. Undo the tranny end and lift the inner cable out. Watch out it's slippery. (or should be) Lube it and install. Quote Link to comment
atkinson40
Greased the cable. Not that. Noise happens in all gears as I wind out the motor even at slow speeds indicating motor rather than tranny related. Popped the hod and rev'ed the motor. I think it's coming from the valve in the air cleaner snoot as I rev the engine.(original air cleaner) -K Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
There is a vacuum operated lever that mixes under hood air with warmed air off the hot manifold. Pull the hose and plug...see if it goes away. Quote Link to comment
