installman57
Hi everybody. New to the forum here. I have a 77 620 l20b w/5speed. I have an opportunity to aquire an automatic from a 240sx. Will it mount to my 620? If so what would I need to do this? Is it worth the effort? Thanks for your time. This group has a lot of useful info and ideas. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes it will bolt up but this won't work. The L series motor sits leaning over to the pass side slightly while both the Z and the KA series sit more vertical. (about 12 degrees different) If you do bolt the KA auto to the L block it will have to be rotated to the pass side to mate up. The fluid will be sloshed over to that side and that's bad for any hydraulic system. Here are two standard transmissions that demonstrate the severity of the 'tilt'. . Quote Link to comment
Jayden71
What is your reason for wanting to go to automatic?? Most people get rid of them and I'm sure someone will want that 5 speed off your hands. Is it worth the effort? Thats up to you. How bad do you want this done?? Do you have the skills and moneys to do it?? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well it would be a 4 speed with a true overdrive 4th gear. What year 240sx is it out of? Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
The early 240sx used the L4N71B 4 speed and the L bell from an '83/'84 Maxima (yes they do unbolt) could be swapped on to it to convert it for use on any L series motor. The L4N71B is about an inch longer than the 3N71B 3 speed auto. Only an Inch you may be able to use the stock driveshaft. Quote Link to comment
