dat74 Posted March 2, 2008 Report Share Posted March 2, 2008 can anyone help me out i have a rats nest for wiring and i need to see what the wiring looks like on the ignition coil which wires go to the resistor and which go to the coil i keep getting it wrong and dont want to start frying wires pics or description would be appreciated thanks Quote Link to comment
ggzilla Posted March 2, 2008 Report Share Posted March 2, 2008 Which datsun model do you have? On some of them, the coil wires are black with white tracer. But remember that pre-77 distributors have to put the ballast resistor inline. So if you see three black/white wires, that's why. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike Posted March 2, 2008 Report Share Posted March 2, 2008 I'll assume dat74 has a ...'74. There should be a Black/White wire from the harness going to one side of the ballast resistor, (side doesn't matter) from the other side a Black/White wire to the + terminal of the coil which should also have a Black/Red wire on it from the harness. The - side of the coil should have a Black wire going to the distributor points. The Black/Red wire comes from the start position of the ignition switch and provides a full 12 volts to the + side of the coil during start only. In the run position the voltage is dropped through the ballast resistor on the Black/White wire. Quote Link to comment
