Topher88
So I'm picking up my car now and when Idrove it the 4 speed shifter had a TON of play in it through all 4 gears. I thought my 4runner was bad. But it seems that when I put it in gear there is a good 4-5 inches of play lol. What should I look for/ change? Quote Link to comment
datto510
Change out the shifter bushing. They are available new from Nissan. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The two cone shaped #8 parts need replacing, or have someone lathe some out of polly or wood. The #9 pin can be replaced with a nut and bolt and the fingers on each side 'squeezed' inward against the #20 striker rod. Do not over tighten or it won't shift. The #15 bushing and #17 pin may also be worn. Quote Link to comment
Topher88
Haha awesome. Do they make like a short shift for it or just say screw it and go 5 speed? Quote Link to comment

Topher88
Ya I'll just figure out a creative thing to put on my shifter and cut it down. Hmmm what to put on it that would be original... Quote Link to comment

Topher88
Dude. I would never do that but I honestly thought that would be funny lol. I'll prob put a really good craft beer handle on Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You can cut the shifter down but the shifter then looses mechanical advantage and though the shift is shorter, it is also a lot stiffer to shift. I don't care for short shifters, usually you have to lean forward, even slightly, to reach 1st and 4th.You should never have to reach for the shifter. What's the real point of a short shift anyway??? datzenmike
custom make your own shifter lol. or get one out of a 720, they are smaller.. The 510 uses an A shifter. The trucks, and a lot more were B type shifters and they won't fit.. Quote Link to comment

Topher88
Ya a little bit of a reach would kind of suck and prob get annoying.. The shifter hits me in the leg now I'm sure I'll figure out something after out after I get some bushings. Quote Link to comment
