Looking for a good source for that Datsun blue the L-series blocks came with from the factory.

I went with the engine paint from datsun parts.com, part number 1255.

It's a bit expensive, but all restorations are.

go get reg GM blue. its the closest you can get to factory without special order from datsunparts.com

I chose what I deemed to be the closest thing to the Datsun blue/green. Here's a shot of my block.

 

It's the Dupli-color Engine Enamel: Pontiac Blue. Very close the the blue/green they baked on at the factory.

 

Here is a dinky little picture of an oil filter with the factory Datsun paint on it. Not exact, but pretty comparable, if you ask me. ;)

Actually you can get a "Tremclad" like enamel base that's tint-able and most auto body supplies have a scanner that can scan the original colour off of a bracket or some other sample.

I think thats what Dean did anyway, Ross at Sports Imports made some years ago and it looked genuine. The GM colours aren't that close when compared side by side.
