SRSANDS
So I just put a L20 in my 521. Almost done but of course any swap if not a direct swap has obstacles. The only obstacle I am facing now is the alternator. I have a 510 alternator and its too chunky to fit. It hits the pitman arm for my steering. Can you guys recomend a smaller diameter replacement? I would like to find a smaller internally regulated one but if that isn't a option what will fit from another vehicle Oreo I just have to find a 521 lil weak 30 amp 521 L motor one. And if so do ya got one to sell or trade for my 510 one I will toss in a 510 voltage reg too? Lemme know Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I have a 50amper in in my rig. I used a L16 belt I think and I grinded the idler arm nut to give some movement. I need to swapo out the belt more oftenas it will stretch over time and hit the idler nut. Quote Link to comment
SRSANDS
Hmmmm....the hitatchi unit I have is too fat in diameter to even fit in the location before it hits that idler unit...I wonder what alternator I have ...what's your 50 from Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Mine is a 610 710 50amper external. I think the key also is the lower bracket that mounts to the block. I dont know if it pushes the alt farther out or not. Im using a 510 l16 lower mount bored out to the 3/8th hole. Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
Remeber my L16 lower alt mount uses the smaller bolts in the block. Later late model L16 ans most 18s and 20 use the bigger bolt alt mounts. soem are 2 or 3 hole. I assume the z cars use the same and Z series maybe even up to KA Quote Link to comment
SRSANDS
Fixed my problem....had a Napz bracket on the block and Hainz was right it pushes the alternator outwards so it hit the steering. Went down to the junk yard today and grabbed a Z bracket, hogged the holes because the Z holes are slightly in a differnt config and bam....done. Quote Link to comment
