Wtf is this?

 

 

So there is a little red canister that says coolant on in in the backround, this is the 3 prong plug in coming out from underneath it. I never even noticed it until I dislodged it from my fan.

 

There is no 3 prong outlet in my engine!

Is it a 115V outlet? ..... ... or a 220V outlet?

It sounds to me like a tank style engine heater. Plug it in to 120V overnight when the temp gets below 0 degrees F. Did your Datsun come from E WA or Idaho or Montana? I don't think you will need the thing in Seattle.

I'm not sure on exactly where my datsun came from originally. But I bought it from a guy who lived right by St.Helens.

 

It's seems the most logical thing is the heater you are talking about. I've never seen anything like that before. I was just curious if you guys knew before I plugged it in to see.

Looks like the wires run to the radiator or the lower hose. If so its a coolant heater, to keep the coolant from freezing.
