tranny cooler

My 71 510 has an auto tranny and apparently when I recently bought a replacement rad I neglected to see if it had tranny line ports. It does not.Rather than track down a 510 radiator with the ports I thought I could use an auxiliary tranny cooler.

Anybody have any good or bad on these?Would it need its own fan?Anybody want to trade?

The radiator in it was solid when I got it but full of rusty slop. The drain plug had been replaced with a bolt that was seized in place.I tried to remove it and ended up removing the whole bung.I had to hammer in a wood plug to make it home.I soldered in a new one but cant seal it up completely since the area was dented when I first fucked it up.

You can pick up tranny oil coolers at auto parts stores. I got one for an old Maxima at GI Joes for ~$50. I got the slightly larger one though.

Just strap it to the front of the radiator. Space it forward a little if you can. That will help airflow. No fan required.
