metalmonkey47
the laughs are on me tonight, yes, im an idiot, but i need help. thanks I wouldn't say so. I myself don't even know much about transmission internals and would be interested in learning whats involved in a rebuild. Also, is your tranny a manual or auto? Might help determine what parts are replace in a rebuild ;) Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
If an automatic it is usually traded for a repaired one and the old one sent for rebuilding. Auto's are more complex and usually not worth the time to check each part. The transmission usually just has the clutches and bands and the valve body replaced outright. Standards, if more or less undamaged, can get the same treatment and are re-built and returned on an exchange basis. A transmission specialist can spend the time to tear it down into it's constituent parts and examined and/or measured for wear and these parts replaced. High wear items would be the main and counter bearings (front and back depending on transmission) synchronizer hubs an front and rear oil seals. The cost would be for labor and only the parts needed or pay possibly more for a totally rebuilt one. Quote Link to comment
