DanielC
Are you gettin ready to fire this thing up? This is what I do to set the timing first off, before starting the engine. Turn the engine clockwise until number one cylinder is getting close to top dead center, compression/firing stroke. Do not go all the way to TDC, but stop 10 degrees before. Do not go past 10 degrees before TDC, and if you go past, go around clockwise on the crank almost two turns. If you take the cam cover off you can see the cam lobes for number one cylinder pointing up, 45 degrees of each side of the verticle centerline of the engine.. Once the engine is there, pull the distributer cap, and confirm the rotor is pointing at the distributer cap tower for number one cylinder. The points shound be close to opening, or they just opened. You can get a test light, and ground one end of the light, and put the other end on the distributer terminal for the advanced set of points. It is the smaller terminal, closest to the engine, not the wider terminal closer to the radiator. The light could be either on, or off with the key on. If the light is on, the points already opened, and if the light is off the points are still closed. if the light is off, grab the rotor, and turn it slightly counterclockwise, and see if the light comes on. Ideally, the light will come on when the rotor is just barely turned, and you might have to turn the rotor clockwise to get the light off. If this is happening with the light, your engine is timed to fire at whatever point you stopped turning the engine at. If you set the engine at 10 degrees before TDC, the engine is timed close enough to start, and run. If the light does not go on and off, by turning the rotor, adjust the distributer base until it does. Quote Link to comment
sdsurf
What master cylinder is that? Quote Link to comment
hessianben
What master cylinder is that? some of the later 620's had a 2-reservoir master to help with brake bias. my 521 will lock the rears before the front thanks to the single res. master. Iv'e got a 620 master like that waiting to go in. Quote Link to comment
