Benkrwn
Does anyone know where I can find a Carrier Bearing for my 1972 620??? Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
Is the bearing itself bad? or just the insulator that surrounds it. I've had the insulator rot out, and I was able to make up a new one using thick rubber. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
X2 on that! Never seen a bad bearing. The rubber is now considered unobtanium. I made a rubber strip about an inch wide out of a piece of conveyor belt and wound around the bearing and slipped into place and clamped down with the help of the hanger bearing support. I think I left the black metal ring shown in the pictures off. Make it snug and clamp it down. I only did this as a temporary measure but it worked so well two years later it was still there. . 1 Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
What I did was took the rubber strip and wrapped it around the bearing like Mike said. However, what I did next was I took the black ring and drilled small holes at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. After I slipped the ring back over the rubber, I secured it with the screws through the 12,3,6, and 9 o'clock holes that I had drilled prior. Still going great. It's nice to know you have options.. INEXPENSIVE options, at that ;) 1 Quote Link to comment

kdennis
Find a driveline shop that is a powertrain distributor and order a 1280-10 1973-1979 datsun 620. Picture shows bearing and rubber. http://www.powertrainindustries.com/catalogs_type.htm?type=Center+Supports Kevin Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Just so there's no confusion my pictures are of a good unobtanium rubber isolator and not the fix. Quote Link to comment

arizonajones
I made a rubber strip about an inch wide out of a piece of conveyor belt and wound around the bearing and slipped into place and clamped down with the help of the hanger bearing support. I just used this same fix on my 720. The rubber fixed the clunk of the loose axle, but now the truck bed vibrates like crazy at about 30-35mph. Do you think that's the bearing (maybe a bad spot with some pitting?) or is it more likely that I need to move bolt positions on the axle? Quote Link to comment
