slo510 Posted March 4, 2010 Report Share Posted March 4, 2010 Hi I'm new to datsun's and I was wondering what tranny came in my car. The guy who I bought the car from said it was a 5-speed. But I'm only finding 4 gears with reverse to the right and down. When I took the tranny out of the car no oil came out when I pulled out the drive shaft. So I'm wondering do I have a 5-speed with a missing gear or a 4 speed. Thanks for the help. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike Posted March 4, 2010 Report Share Posted March 4, 2010 Car 4 speed judging from the rear mount. You don't say what car you have so could be from 280z or first year 280sx ('79) or up to '78-'79 810/Maxima. If you have a 510 then it was swapped in and could also be from a '73-'78 620. 4 and 5 speeds are easy to tell appart if you know how. The guy who sold you this should know if it's a5 speed or not. Shame on him. Get to know your car better than the guy who sells you something or it's shame on YOU!!!. Quote Link to comment

FS5W63A short dog leg L series Short dog leg Z series Long dog leg L series (origin unknown, 810?) FS5W71B long Z series left and L series right. FS5W71B with diesel bolt pattern FS5W71B short tail L series FS5W71B short tail Z series FS5C71A with L bell FS5C71B L series FS5R90A L series FS5W60L A series All 5 speeds from late 60's until '82 when Datsun became Nissan .
