My New '80 Datsun 720

Recommended Posts

what up guys i just got a 1980 datsun 720 4x4 from my girlfriends dad. He had it sitting in the garage for like 20 something years he said, but he took real good care of it. Out of no where he decided to get rid of it after all these years so i bought it off of him. He said the timing was a bit off because the vacuum control assembly needed to be replaced, so i replaced it but it still seems to be running the same. it runs good it just kinda takes a while to start. I have to rev it up for like 3 minutes to get it going before it dies on me, and also when i start driving itll start putting like but will go away after i start driving for a bit. these are the only problems i have, everything else is perfect. I dont know if its because it hasnt been started for along time and just has been sitting there and needs to get use to running again or what? i need your guys help! i have pics of the car on my profile.

lets see some pics!

It sounds like a carburator problem

1) check out whether your choke is working

2) Do you live somewhere thats really cold? could be carb Icing.

3) Could be running rich.

trouble shoot with the carb thats what it sounds like if the car runs well when it is warmed up.

Next time the motor is cold take the air filter off. Pump the gas a couple of times and take a look. The choke plate should be closed like this:

... or open like this:

BTW this is not your carb but similar just for example.
