ericsb210
New to Ratsun. I have a 77 B210 GFU Hatchback. I am accumulating all the wearable parts to restore it (brake system, shocks, steering components, etc.). My goal is to surpass the 50 mpg advertised rating for it. Plus, have a nice reliable rig. Some of the things I am doing are; 5w/20 synthetic, Redline MT-90 synthetic (tranny and rearend), sythetic wheel bearing grease, making sure that none of the new brake system causes a drag on the wheels, reducing weight (considering updating the bumpers). Any thoughts out there on what else to do? I will post pictures later. Quote Link to comment

ericsb210
I will post picks tomorrow. Be forwarned it is in transition right now and not a pretty sight! Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Those changes should allow you to exceed the 5-0 on the highway at 55 mph. One club member bested 77 mpg with his B210 in a measured competition. Read about it here: Ratsun: A-series fuel mileage record holder? Quote Link to comment
Pumpkn210
I felt a big difference when I went to alum wheels(rotating mass and un sprung weight) Also taller wheels and tires change the gear ratio higher! Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I went from stock steelies and tires (22 lbs each) to aluminum (same diameter) and wider, lower tires (22 lbs each). YOU CAN HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO! Quote Link to comment
Guest kamakazi620
plus longer gears are great for mileage!!! theres a reason why a crx HF can redline at 5500 rpm at 55-60 mph in first gear!! Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
Just put new tires on my steelies:) If I decided to go alum. with a taller tire to achieve a higher ratio, is there a way to adjust the spedo for accuracy? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Sure, you change the speedometer gear in the transmission. Nissan has several different gears for this. Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
Does anybody have a chart or a source for the speedometer gear to tire size matchup? Also, if I go from a 155sr13 to a 155sr15 (of which I estimate a 10" dif in overall circumfrance) how much of a percentage of MPG could I expect? I was thinking about 10%, does that sound resonable? greybeard
You don't want to go too tall a tire/gear and get out of the engines efficiency range. as for tires skinny is better for aero and has less rolling resistance. Lowering a little will also help, maybe find one of the old flexdam airdams for the car. if you don't remember, it was an airdam that had a rubber lip at the bottom so it could to get up driveways. I always liked the way they looked. Quote Link to comment
