Hello all! I found this site from a cragslist link and love it.

 

Many years ago in high school I had a toyota and then sold it and got a 76?

620(this was back in 1990 )

I loved that truck , My good friend painted Bart on the tailgate (Simpsons were pretty racy on TV back then:p)

 

I recently bought a 71 520 that Im having a hard time deciding on what to do with it since I found this site.

Im into 4x4ing and have a a lot of parts laying around, was thinking of throwing a chev 4.3 V6 with a 700r4 and toy tcase and front axle.

 

Also Im loving some of the bagged lowriders , with a nissan 4cyl.

So im having a hard time deciding.:confused:

It had been sitting in a barn for the past 15 years and been off the road for 20 years .

 

This truck already has some early ford V6 already , apparently mated to a toyota transmission( i have not actually checked what it is yet.)

 

I guess I could find another ford V6 too .

If I did do the gm 4.3 I'll need to cut the fire wall.:(

 

I actually owned one like it 22 years ago that I never drove ,kept it for a while and sold it to a buddy

I must say I am partial to the chevy v6 , mostly because I have 2 sitting in the shop. stock these are 190 horse , but they weigh over 400lbs :eek:

VG30DE, non turbo, stock is 222hp, and weighs less than a 4.3. :thumbup:

 

VG33E, 202hp, and still weighs less...

Ok what are these engines out of?

 

Im not apposed to cutting the firewall but would rather not, If i do use a 4.3 the distributor would be imposable to get to from the engine bay

Any Dual cam 2.4 from a RWD Nissan. 240sx, Frontiers mostly.

The VG30DE is from the non turbo 300zx, and the VG33E is out of the early model Frontier pickups. They both can be had faily cheap. Awhile back a member was selling a good 300zx VG30DE for $100!! Both motors are quite stout, and last a long time... SO they wrecking yards don't sell them very often.

Its not a bad price. The KA24DE is a 4cylinder, and makes about 158hp. Can make a lot more modified.

Im wondering if its any shorter than the nissan V6s , i guess i need to get some measurements from the engine bay next.

 

how are the 4cyl engines for rebuilding $$$ .

 

Im really liking the thought of putting a peppy 4cyl back in, lowering the truck a bit, do some body work get the thing in primer and on the road buy next summer

 

I really want to build a 620 king cab one day ,and can use up some of the 4.3sand 4x4 gear I have laying around.

FULL kit for a little over $300... BUT pistons aren't usually necessary, and the timing gears aren't totally necessary...

$500 for everything but a trans is a steal! Jump on it! You wont get a cheaper swap unless you go single cam, but who wants one of those? (sorry Jeff :D)

just wonderin why you didnt mention the VG30e, you can get em cheap out of a Z31 or a few other cars
