Cuts metal like mad Posted September 20, 2009 Report Share Posted September 20, 2009 so I am getting ready to do the output shaft seal, and I need to know whats the difference between the fs5w71b and fs5w71a... the part numbers for the seal are different and so is the price... I realize I could pull the old seal and match it up, but that would require me to order 2 seals since they aren't in stock. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike Posted September 20, 2009 Report Share Posted September 20, 2009 The FS5W71B came out in '77. The FS5W71A was used in the Roadster? and with an L bell was used on the early Z car I think. The pt. no. for the FS5W71B and the F4W71B 4spd. is the same: 32136 U0100 What tranny are you rebuilding? Quote Link to comment
Cuts metal like mad Posted September 20, 2009 Author Report Share Posted September 20, 2009 Well I'm not rebuilding the tranny, just replacing the leaking output shaft seal. When ordering the part it gives the option of the fs5w71b-or a... the tranny is out of a 77-78 280z. I too thought it had to be the 71b, but fuck... I don't want to be wrong when they the list the part number different. Strangely enough the seal looks fine, but I can see the fluid coming out around the driveshaft dust shield. I suppose it COULD be coming from further up the tranny, but the fluid ON the tranny is dirty and the fluid coming out of the output shaft is clean, and smells FRESH as the day I put it in.
