thisisastickup Posted September 1, 2009 Author Report Share Posted September 1, 2009 I'm not really looking to do an upgrade, I'm pulling this motor for my swap asap. I just want to drive it till winter when I take it off the road. It's a 510, I don't really think amps matter as I don't use any of my electrical shit anyways so all it has to do is power my battery. datsunaholic Posted September 1, 2009 Report Share Posted September 1, 2009 I know it's a 510, but '71 510s don't come with L20B's. There's no reason you can't use the L16 alternator, unless it doesn't fit the mount (later models had larger mounts for larger alternators). There's several different mounts and some fit and some don't. Plus L20B's had alternators that were either externally regulated or internally regulated- if the car is still using the external one, you need that kind of alternator. If it's been modified along with the engine swap, then you'd need the Internally Regulated kind. It's also enteriely possible the L16 alternator mount was put on the L20B, then you would use the stock alternator, or at least one with the stock spacing. Link to comment
