The VIN, the engine serial number, and the transmission serial number never match. The engine and transmission serial numbers are completely independant of each other and the VIN. In fact I believe the last year that Nissan put the engine serial number on the underhood dataplate was 1977, until maybe later in the 80s or so (if ever).

If it just says Z20 on the block then there's no good way to know what's inside short of a teardown. The Z20S (carbbed) and Z20E (EFI) were slightly different inside- mainly the rod length and piston pin height (they're a matched set) but there were also minor casting differences in the blocks according to some sources.

I'd be somewhat confident that the engine is original being that the 1980 200SX was the only year and only model that had an EFI, 4-plug Z20E engine, making it somewhat rare. The '81 200SX used an 8-plug engine, the '82-83 200SX used a Z22E, and the rest of the vehicles that used the Z20 were carbbed (80-81 510 and 83-86 720 "MPG" model)
