The Maxima diesels were all automatics. If it actually IS from a Maxima it's an L series mid ratio with a 3.321 first gear as opposed to a 3.592 wide and a 3.062 close.

If it actually IS a diesel 5 speed then from a 720 truck.... aaaaand the starter is on the driver's side. It will be a wide ratio but fits the SD series engines and not the L series... but... If you have an L series 71B 4 or 5 speed front case you could swap that on and convert it.

Ask what side the starter is on. If on the right side get a picture of the top front taken from the rear.

Actually diesel maxima came 5 speed too.

Hello William, I was told you could possibly help me. I'm looking for a dual SU intake MANIFOLD only, for the L series engines.

Got any or know where to find one?

    Thx

    Curt

Wish I would have seen this earlier one of my friends had a bunch for sale I believe he sold them all to a friend in Bend, Oregon.

  3. Well since driving it daily today starting up early am for work it was making an awful noise.  I hope it isn't anything to be worried but I'll have to diagnose it before trying to drive it again.  I definitely want to give the Z24 a chance before swapping a KA in it not looking for power or going fast but would be nice to have a little extra.

  4. Also i been driving it since to work and a few times around town.  Still gotta register it and change the title over lol.  I'm happy to finally drive it again since March.  Rides like a bus and needs attention.  Gotta give a oil change, tune up and clean the heck out of the engine it's nasty under there.  Even for being as heavy as it is the van drives pretty good and decent power.

  5. Finally was able to get my parts a week ago and my good friend @reza was nice enough to help me get it fixed.  Found a parts van in a junkyard in Colorado.  @konig209 hooked me up with a contact of the guy who pulled parts.  Got lucky as the parts van was also a manual like mine with only 63k miles and was able to get the shift linkage cables.  IMG_20211115_145525_509.thumb.jpg.36cd9e819b4db6d0f30741b198efaea0.jpg

Hmmmmmm I think you should look at the 1990's Previa.  That 1980's Toyota van looks kinda like this Nissan van & they did not produce as many as the later Previa.  Just my 2cents!

For sure we do have a lot of both the previs and Toyota vans around here if i can't find something I'll have to pick a few mechanics brain see if they ever dealt with this issue.  Either way gotta find a solution.

See if you can find a parts blowup like above, but for the 1990's Toyota Previa van, that had the engine in a similar position in the chassis.  Maybe Toyota used a similar cable......??  Toyota DID make a manual Previa, but most were automatic.  Toyota likely sold many more of the Previa's, so if you can "borrow" a similar manual shift cable, would be much easier to find in a junkyard...........heck, if you think it would work, might still be available from Toyota.......??

Yeah i was actually also thinking of the 80's Toyota Van as well that has pretty much the same set up.  I'll have to see if the local toyota parts department may be still be able to order those parts.

  9. Finally doing some work on the van.  3 weeks ago a friend came over and wanted to see the van move so we looked into the shift linkage cables exposed after taking off the center console.  So the previous owner had the the cables held on with bailing wire and the same thing for the cable down below next to the transmission shift lever.  The van shifts into 1st, 3rd, & 5th, so I'm thinking the other cable that goes to the back of the transmission where the second lever is might have same "fix".  Of course parts for these are NLA so I'll have to figure out some parts off another vehicle that use similar set up.

The shims that hold the cables in place were missing, i replaced them with some i had at home that fit perfectly to hold one of the cables in place where the shifter is located.  Did the same for one of the cables and seem to do the trick.  Just need to figure out how to get 2nd, 4th & reverse back.  Other than that the van definitely needs a tune up, oil change, plugs and wires done.

Carbureted and VG aren't usually paired together with easy in the same sentence.  Do you have access to the elusive Saudi carb manifold, or will you modify an FI manifold for the carb?

Yeah it's not very popular set up i only had seen a video of grassrootsgarage of a guy down in San Diego with a VG35 stroker with a carbureted set up.  I don't have access to one, i will try to look for one but can always just run the fuel injection.

  11. Thank you guys unfortunately after this my lower rad hose got murdered by the alternator i replaced it thought i cut enough of it so it wouldn't happen again.  Ended up happing once again frustrating, overheated twice and now I think the head gasket might went bad.

Plans are too swap a free low mile JDM VG33 I'm getting from my good friend Ali-Reza a member here.  Can't say no to free but i want to keep it simple and most likely go the carburetored route with some slight mods.  Wanted to keep it L-Series as i have a LZ23 that needs carbs.  Figured it's easier and cheaper to do the VG swap.
