  1. What type of paint did you use on the emblem?  I used testors model paint and got close but no quite.  Good lookin' coupe.

Sadly I used cheap generic spray paint that I already had laying around.  It's not the exact colors but they were close enough and again free since I already had them.  I didn't spray it, rather I sprayed the paint into the can's cap itself then used a small paint brush.  After it was dry, I clear coated the whole thing.  Not ideal but hey, looks ok I think.

    Looking real good!

    Thanks GM!

  2. Looks like a GREAT starting point!

    Thanks :)

    Looks awesome!

Thanks, I think so too :P

Holy Crap!! Where did you find that? Pretty Clean?? It looks like you just drove it out of the 1975 Rocky Horror Picture Show time warp!

I found it on my local Craigslist and I was the first one out to see it.  I guess since I have only seen one other one in person I don't know how clean or unclean it is, not much to compare unlike my Datsun 510 where there's lots of those running around our meet. :)

That is a very nice coupe.  here's mine.

ive been slowly putting it back together.  the exterior is just about done

    Yours is coming along nicely!

  3. Well here's my small contributions to this thread since I haven't had it for a long time, so bare with me:
I picked up a pretty clean 1971 Datsun 1200 coupe...here's the first pic I took of it, even though it was pretty dirty/dusty:

So here it is after washing it:

I still need to tidy up a few things but it's a good starting point :)

  4. I liked yours since the first time I saw it at the SJ Swap Meet!  That gave me the extra nudge to go look at the one I ended up picking up! :)

So I wasn't please with the ashy looking grey grille...so I decided to give it a little life back. :P

Hello Modesto, up for sale 1971 Datsun 1200 Sunny B110 clean title on hand.
This is a one time chance to own one of the rarest Datsuns ever made, its a project car and it does not run will need a Carb and battery and other stuff to make it run or complete restoration. I am not in a rush to sale and I don't want any trades cash only I have no time to play if you have no cash. If you think you can find another one Good Luck its the only one I see otherwise i would buy them all. If you have the cash Email me with a phone number and I will call you back otherwise don't bother i will be removing this add in a week so hurry and snatch it before i change my mind.

After further inspection of this vehicle I am adding few more photos, the car looks solid does have few rust spots here and there and will need to be restored, these cars go for 10k plus after spending some time and money to restore them and price has been adjusted after further inspection of the vehicle according to its condition.

  6. So I've always been a Datsun guy since getting my first 510 at age 15...since then I've owned at least 5 Dimes and a few other old school Toyotas/Fiats/etc but this has been my first foray into OTD (other than Dimes) for Datsuns.

I ran across this 1971 Datsun 1200 on my local CL about a month ago and after texting the owner and discussing price, he just said to come take a look at it and we could work something out...so I drove the 5 minutes from my work and after looking it over for 30 minutes, low and behold I got it for much less than his asking price and even less than what I went over there thinking I'd offer :)

It's not my ideal color nor is it perfect by far but it has potential as a good base/start and with a few minor tweaks, I think I can make it nicer.

Ok enough typing, onto what I know you all like..PICTURES right!

Below is what it is in all it's glory!  Pretty plain Jane, down to the stock 12" wheels :)

  7. I don't know about your color Randy, but those wheels look great! Haha just kidding I love that power blue color.

Wizeguy, I replied to your PM with my color paint name and where it comes from.  Here's another pic of it but in the dark to give you another view of it.

  8. Ok guys, time for a bump for next week's last Thursday of the month meetup (8/29/13).

I've been gone and missing the meets for a few months (lame I know) but I'll definitely be out there next week, so start trying to crank your Datsun up now so it's actually on and warmed up by next Thursday! Haha...see you guys and gals there!

  9. i wouldn't use a wire wheel on my wheels, sounds way to harsh on aluminum. i could be wrong but id be hesitant to use that approach without seeing results in person first.

If you're going after a homemade polish like I did, you ARE going to scratch your wheels, but you go up with the sand paper to reduce the scratches until they're so fine you can polish the wheels, it won't look pretty initially but if you keep it up and like someone else said, use lots of elbow grease, you'll be happy with the end results.  I mean did you not see the end results of what my panasports came out looking?  Look back a page or two to see for yourself.

I used gasket remover.. it did NOTHING. Anywhere.

Did you used a pump style one or an aerosol gasket remover?  If you used the pump style one, that's worthless since it's mostly water and no chemicals.  The stuff I used bubbled up the powercoating as soon as it made contact.

  10. Yeah I set it up a long time ago so anyone can order them without PM'ing me at all, just go to the first page of this thread for ordering info! :)

Glad to read you guys have ordered and enjoyed them enough to reorder more! I plan on doing up some more designs just have to dust the cobwebs off and get cranking! :)

  11.

The lips on the Wantanbes look like mine. I'll be sure to post the results once I get them done. Hopefully I can start working on them next week or so. Thanks for all the help Dimer, your wheels look great!

Glad it can help you out and good luck with your wheels.  Just keep at it when all looks like you're in for big mess, it will pay off! :P

Those Watanabes make me want to jizz.. although I'm not really feeling the white(?) faces on them though. Still, after saying that, I'd still rock them. haha

Also, I can't believe that gasket remover spray did all of that!

They're not white, it's a light grey (Winter's grey) and I'm not out to try to please anyone on what color haha! :)

I tried the graphite and hated it, same for black wheels and silver wheels seem too boring so this color will look nice and contrast well once they're back on my blue wagon.
