I just pull the choke right before shutoff. Works well.
This carb is electric choke

If you can run moore initial advance (like 14-16), you can close the throttle plate a little more and reduce dieseling. Lean fuel mixture also causes it, so try setting the idle mixture up more rich - with a little lope to the idle. Also make 1000% sure there are no manifold leaks as the smallest vacuum leak can cause hot spots and run-on.
Thanks for responding
Thats what exactly what I was told by redline weber tech.
Thanks

Speed screw shouldn't be more then 1/2 turn in.thats what I was told my redline weber tech

I even added a fuel pressure regulator.swapped the idle jets to 50s.advanced the timing to 14btdc and closed abit of speed screw.idle set at 750-800 rpm.runs good

5w is for newer cars, It's much thinner and gives better mileage. It's not good for a Datsun above 0 F. I would never run it.
Again what is making you think the oil is too thick? You're in California and a thousand miles farther south than me. The average low in Dec and Jan in Modesto is 40F.
The coldest day on record for Oct 6th was in 1969. It was 42F.
Right now it's 78F
Ok I got the noise under control.
What I did was I checked the timing. its around 12degs.
Then I opened the fuel mixture screw 1/4 more turn out.
I closed the speed screw say about 2/8 turnd in.engine started to run smooth.98 % of dieselling gone.I even check oil pressure, its around 22psi at idle,
That funny noise coming from under the valve cover is gone..
So my guess is ,my intial adjustments were too lean for the engine causing it to make noises, which had me confused so I started looking at oil,oil pump etc etc.not realizing that the real problem was my carb was way out of tune.

Got the engine running good.
95% dieselling is gone.
Cultprit was lean condition and trottle open more the 1/2 turn

5w30 synthetic oil any good for the situation??
-
In cold start.I hear noise from under valve cover for like 5-10 secs ,so I figured the oil is having hardtime traveling up to the lifters.
Since I just did valve adjustments not to long ago
-
Seems like its having hard time pumping 10w40 on cold start

Whatsup fellas.
I need advice on what grade of motor oil for my high miler datsun engine in the cooler season. Thanks

Idle jets are 45s.that is probably y .
I opened another 1/4 turnvof fuel mixture screw and closed the speed screww alittle
-
I inspected the plugs .looks like its running lean.

What's up.ratssons.
So I having a bit of trouble after I installed 38/38 weber on my l18.the engine is dieselling after I turn off the ignition.never had this problem with the old carb.
I only jets I swapped ,is the idle jets from 50 to 45s.mixture screws are 1.1/4 turn out and speed screww is at 1/2-turn in.ignition timing is at 10-12deg.my question is .is it over caburated for 1800cc ? Vacuum leaks??
Any one had this type of problem before..??
Thanks
