Hello to all of you East Coast Datsun 510'rs,

Happy New Year to all of you. I hope that 2009 will bring you all Health, Wealth, Happiness and lots of good times in your 510.

The time is getting near for the 13th annual East Coast Datsun 510 meet. As some of you know, our annual meet was started in 1997 at Summit Point Raceway and was held during the Brian Redman’s Jefferson 500. The Jefferson 500 is a vintage car race drawing all sorts of great vintage cars and fans. We held years 1 – 10 of our meet during that event and then in year 11 (2007) the Jefferson 500 was canceled at the last minute. We scrambled to find another location and ended up having a great time at Cedar Mountain Campground in Culpeper. As good as the campground was, most of us missed Summit Point and the racing environment. So for 2008, we decided to find a replacement for the Jefferson 500. Last year we were back at Summit Point and held our meet during the SCCA Nationals. It was a good time and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Well for 2009, the Jefferson 500 is back at Summit Point. Vintage Racers Group (VRG) is bringing back the Jefferson 500.

So now we have a choice to make. The Jefferson 500 or the SCCA Nationals.

I have decided to let the majority vote decide which event we will attend. Before you cast your vote, you need to read the following information.

Every event for the past 12 years was held on the 3rd weekend in May. One of the main complaints I have heard year after year is about the rain. It seems that it rains more often then not on that particular weekend. I know that we can not control the weather but we can look at weather patterns and that is exactly what I have done.

The Jefferson 500 is being held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 1st – 3rd, 2009.

The SCCA Nationals are being held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 15th – 17th, 2009.

I did a weather history comparison for each of these weekends from 2000 – 2008. (see below)

It seems that during the early weekend in May, the rainfall average over nine years is .035" and average temp is 80 degrees. Our typical meet weekend (3rd weekend in May), the average rainfall over nine years is .286" and the average temp is 70 degrees. Funny how the later weekend has lower average temps and more rain. What happened to “April showers bring May flowers”.

So fellow East Coast 510 Lovers, It is time for you to cast your votes. I need to hear back from each of you with a vote for one of the following:

Number 1: Jefferson 500 - May 1st – 3rd Or Number 2: SCCA Nationals – May 15th – 17th

You only get one vote per person. I need an email from you with only one choice in it. All votes must be in by Saturday January 17, 2009. I will tally the votes and let everyone know the decision ASAP.

My email is qwik510@aol.com

Either event will have lots of great racing and lots of great cars to see. I look forward to a great meet this year. Get to work on those dimes. There are only 111 or 116 days left until Summit Point!

Enjoy the Ride!

hey qwik-any chance you could bring your crew down to atlanta for our meets? the road atlanta meet is going to be tons of fun, parade laps on the track and i think we are going to get to run some "spirited" laps as well. we need more datsuns, there are tons of toyotas in the group! of course i know its a long way, but maybe you know some east coasters from more down south you tell about it.

I attended the Mitty a few years ago. It was a great event. I am sure that there are EC 510 owners that will be at the Mitty this year instead of Summit Point but most of the SP attendees really like the smaller gathering of SP.

Link to comment

Anyway, the Mitty is a great car gathering and a must do at least once. But the crowd at SP is the best and we all have a great time and we also get around 20 plus 510s showing up. I doubt the Mitty will get more then 6-8 510s and the rest will be Z cars, roadsters and maybe a truck or two.

We might have parade laps at SP again this year. I am still working on it.

The Mitty is a Multi Brand Car Gathering but so is the Jefferson 500. You will be amazed by all the cool vintage race cars that show up. Old Jags, Ferraris, Allards, Lotus', Lolas, MG's, Triumphs, Morgans, Fiats, Volvos, Vintage american, etc. The Jefferson 500 draws them all. And the SPEC510 Meet is right there in all the action.

If you must go to the Mitty, Have a good time.

If you want to be surrounded by all of your 510 brothers and sisters, come to Summit Point.

Here is some of what you will be missing if you don't show up.

All these nice dimes were equipped with L series motors, Mazda Rotarys, SR20DE, SR20DET, KA24DET, VG30. Lots of cool swaps to see.

Night time fun too:

You won't see anything like this at the Mitty. So if you are looking to see the largest gathering of 510s (east of the Mississippi) and a fantasitic group of people that are into the beloved Datsun 510, then there really is only one place to be on May 1st - 3rd. SUMMIT POINT RACEWAY for the Jefferson 500 and the SPEC510 MEET.

One more thing.

The Mitty does not allow: Campfires, Pets, Glass Containers or Fireworks.

Too many rules at the Mitty.

And the marque of choice there this year is the Jaguar. Snooty bunch if you ask me.

:D Come to SUMMIT POINT! :D

Hello East coast Datsun 510 Group,

Winter is almost over. It is time to start getting those dimes ready for the

13th Annual East Coast Datsun 510 Meet at Summit Point Raceway.

It will be here before you know it. Only 75 more days.

I need some volunteers to help out getting some sponsors to donate goodies for our giveaways/door prizes. It seems that with the recession going on, everyone is suffering and some of our previous sponsors have not responded to my requests. If anyone can help out by calling on sponsors, via phone or email, please get in touch with me.

Also, the fundraising raffle for the Futofab BRE spook.airdam is going well. We have sold lots of tickets and raised some good $$ for our event. Tickets are still available so if you have not bought yours yet, don't miss out. We may be adding several more items to this raffle as 2nd and 3rd place drawings so get your tickets today.

The Dime Quarterly has posted the Event info on their website so if you want to share the info with anyone, here is a link.

http://dimequarterly.tierranet.com/calendar.shtml#May

It will be a busy spring so get working on those dimes.

Even of your 510 is not ready to make the trip, plan on attending. You will have a great time without your dime there.

See you all in only 75 more days.

Enjoy the Ride!

Only 5 or 6 days until The SPEC510MEET! (depends on how you count )

For those of you that have been there before, you know where we will be. For the newcomers, we camp out behind the carousel of the main track. When you get to the gate, tell them you are with the Datsun 510 Club and you should get a $5 discount off the admission price. Your admission gets you a weekend pass and a free camping spot. As you proceed past the gate, you will turn right and follow the road along with the track on your left. After you get past the grand stand, the carousel will be on your left. The road will turn to the left back towards a wooded area and we will be either on the left or the right side of the road, depending on if we can beat some others to the better spot.

If anyone has any issues or needs anything, you can call me on my cell phone and I will try to help. My cell number is 301-651-7788.

I plan to get to the track on Thursday Morning. Several of us will be there early on Thursday. This will be an event to remember. Don't miss it. Even if your 510 is not running, you need to show up. Even if just for the day. Saturday is usually the best day for one day visits.

I can't wait to see everyone.
