datzenmike
There is no and was no overdrive automatic for the 720 truck any year. You probably mean the locking torque converter. It's not an overdrive, it simply locks out any slip in the torque converter. Generally the lock out is so soft it's not noticable and RPMs drop only 200-400 RPM. My info shows the locking converter from 11 '82 on the '83 model year with Z24 engine. 1/ What is wrong with you automatic? Maybe it's fixable with some adjustments. 2/ What makes you think you have a locking torque converter? Quote Link to comment
danarello
I’m going to relay your message to my brother-in-law. He owns the truck. My wife just handed me a note that said he needs an A/T. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Find out more, it might be an easy fix. To my knowledge the '82 did not have the locking torque converter but one from a Z24 will and will fit if you also get the automatic flex plate that bolts to the engine with it. Otherwise any Z20/22 car or truck 3N71B auto will do. Quote Link to comment
