Frank antonio Posted January 15 Report Share Posted January 15 So we recently picked up an 84 720 and came to find a carbureted z22 mated to the original 4x4 transmission of this pickup. When we got it it wouldn't move in any gear (5-speed MT) . We put a new master and slave since they're fairly cheap and the truck had sat a while. That didn't get it moving , so we decided to do a new clutch kit after bleeding and getting no movement. After clutch install we now have an issue where the truck will go into gear when shit off but will not when turned over . Any gear . We started the truck in 1st and it pulled away but pressing the clutch pedal wouldn't disengage the clutch itself. After doing some research maybe we installed the clutch disc backwards but that wasn't the case. After we pulled off the transmission again we confirmed the parts we all installed properly but the truck still isn't going into gear . Also while in neutral the truck would shut off when letting off the clutch pedal. We are stumped on what could be the problem. Please help ? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike Posted January 15 Report Share Posted January 15 First, it's impossible to install the pressure plate if the clutch disc is in backwards. What release bearing collar are you using? I ask because the Z22 only used a 225mm pressure plate while the Z24 used a 240mm plate. The difference in pressure plate heights are compensated for by this collar length holding the bearing. As the bearing collar is on the clutch arm, and you are using the original transmission, it's likely you are using a 240mm collar on a 225mm clutch. The correct collar for the Z22 pressure plate is 30501-N1600 this is for fitting to your 225mm pressure plate. The 30501-N1600 was used on the 2000-2004 Xterra 2wd VG33E truck so Nissan probably still has them. If you did not replace the release bearing before, it's a good idea to do so now. If the old used one fails in the next little while you'll have to take the transmission out yet again to do it later. The release bearing is 30502-21000. 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike Posted January 17 Report Share Posted January 17 Yeah couldn't hurt, it's cheap and easy to do. Don't use the grease method for removal of the old bushing. If you are going that route use white bread. Better yet do it the way I do it. No mess, easy, fast and no special tools needed. Quote Link to comment
