Corey Tyson
First timer here folks. I am wondering what the casting depression may be on the rear of my L16 521 block near the 44mm frost plug I suspect it may be a locating position used in the machining processes .I cant see putting another "baby"frost plug that near the other. . I'd love to send a picture, but i'm new to all this .Thank You Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
They're core plugs that seal openings in the block to remove casting sand. They might pop out if the block froze but that's not their purpose. If the plug is on the right side and aligns with the oil filter then its a gallery that runs from front to back for filtered oil to get to the crankshaft bearings. Both ends are sealed with a solid metal plug. Below it's been removed to clean and then tapped and a threaded plug installed. Quote Link to comment
