datzenmike
L16s also use the same 3N71B flexplate. Is the starter ring worn out? Quote Link to comment
datsun229
The flexplate is gear is worn out Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well you could zip cut the welds and take the ring gear off, turn it around and tack it back on or have someone do this.. Any L16/18/L20B manual flywheel or automatic flexplate after '71 use the same ring gear. Manual flywheels you can just tap them off. The dealer may still have them? about $100. Quote Link to comment
datsun229
Can the l3n71b automatic transmission bolt up to the napz motor Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes the 720 automatics were 3N71Bs but it must have a Z series bell housing that matches the Z series engine. In other words the 3N71B for an L20B that was in a 620 will bolt up but won't work. But you could take the L series bell housing off and swap a Z series one on. There were two 3N71Bs used in the 720. The early were like previous, but the '83 and on had locking torque converters. The torque converter, flex plate and bell housing plus interior parts were different. Quote Link to comment
