builte
Recently replaced old burnt up alternator now I am getting a very subtle squealing sound while idling and every now and then it will squeal loudly while there is a clicking sound under the passenger side dash I tested the battery and alternator battery is good and alternator is charging. datzenmike
If you mean the red charge light is out means it's charging, yes and no. It may only just barely be charging. Got a meter? over 14v would be charging. Clicking is the choke heater relay. This is almost always a poorly charging alternator. Replacement alternators are often 'bad in the box' they are mostly crap and why they have a free replacement policy They keep replacing till a 'good'' one happens by. Their idea of rebuilding is cleaning and testing them and put in a new box. If the bearing(s) was/were replaced they are inferior and likely the source of the squealing. A Nissan Alternator is near $400 so you get what you pay for. 1 Quote Link to comment

builte
So the battery needs to read 14v while running? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well preferably over 14v. Pull the headlight switch and see. Under load it should as well. 1 Quote Link to comment
