VIOLET LA10 1977 - WHO KNOWS??? - NEED STRUTS

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Helping a crazy datsun/nissan owner and former dealers in the 80's to find parts for one of his 15? 16? cars (or more...)

Not sure this has been sold in US but taking my chance here as can hardly find info from the internet.

Looking for front/rear struts as a start.

Anybody know what strut model/alternative could fit?

Thanks

Seb

The 510 didn't have struts in the back just shock absorbers or 'dampers' where you are. Just take an old one in and match compressed and extended lengths to a similar length new one.

The fronts are true McPherson struts that combine spring and shock absorber together. The Datsun strut is filled with oil and the 'wet' 'damper' sits in it. The strut and spring don't wear out but the damper does. On line you can buy a self contained insert. You disassemble and drain the oil and old damper out, fit the new 'dry' insert and put back together. Too long won't fit slightly shorter ones you can shim with washers under it.

or...

What I did was drain the old thin watery hydraulic oil out and replace with a heavier 20w motorcycle fork oil. The thicker oil resists being pushed through the valves in the damper and this firms them up. A liter will renew three dampers so there is plenty.
