STAY RAD!
I had ordered 4wd drum shoes a while ago but finally got around to replacing them this past weekend. Took the hellish situation out, cleaned things up and put in new wheel cylinder, put the new shoes in only to find the drum not fitting back on. Took it off again and notice the shoes are a lot wider than the original ones previously installed. The old ones appear to be ~1.75" wide and the new ones were ~2.25 inches wide. I checked rock auto and other sites for 4WD shoes and they all seem to have the ~2.25 wide shoes. So I am confused why I had the smaller width installed unless that is the standard width and the websites aren't listing the new shoes correctly? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Does your differential have a bolt on cover on the back side? Quote Link to comment

STAY RAD!
@datzenmike yep, it has bolt on cover. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
They changed to a larger C-200 rear end for '83. Thought maybe an earlier H-190 may have been swapped on. It might have the narrower shoes. Quote Link to comment
STAY RAD!
Does the C-200 have the bolt on rear then? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The gears are put into the axle housing and set up. The H-190 is a removable third member with the gears in it. Quote Link to comment
STAY RAD!
Think i figured it out. Referencing three different repair manuals, it looks like I might have 1986 D21 4wd shoes, which retailers are listing for 1986 720 4wd. I really need to stick to 1985 4wd 720 parts! powderfinger
Yes, from my experience, anytime you order parts for an 86 you will get D21 parts. Quote Link to comment
