L20B engine-to-bellhousing supports/gussets, are they needed?

I am in the teardown then rebuild process of an L20B with L-series 4-speed transmission (going into my '71 510 sedan) and based on the manual I'm following, discovered that I am missing the engine-to-bellhousing brackets/gussets that mount to the bottom of the block and the transmission bell housing. What I'm wondering is, how necessary are these gusseted brackets?

I've run without them for years only to find them on another engine and realize mine were missing. On a later S110 200sx They were aluminum.

I had a good picture of my aluminum ones but may have lost then in the transfer to this newer computer. They're out back in my parts pile which is just slightly better than lost.

Thanks, now I have a better idea of what I'm searching for. Looks a little different than the one in the manual I'm using (hopefully the img I linked below works), Is the S110 bracket interchangeable to the L20B?

They are the same block and crank as the L20B but the Z20 is oriented differently in the engine bay. The gussets fit either, just like the common water pump.

Are the brackets the same for auto and manual transmissions? I found a set off an L18 on eBay but they are from an A/T
