cdddt_95
I own a 1980 Datsun 720 and recently got it to pass smog. Kinda been craving a bit more power out my truck and was wondering if I can simply Bolt on a 32/36 Weber carb, running it until it comes time to smog then put my old Hitachi back on when the time comes? Will I have to make any adjustments to the Hitachi carb? Will it run the same as it was before assuming I do everything correctly? Any issues I could possibly run in? Any help would be appreciated. Don't wanna take it off if it's gonna cause problems 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
You could do that. Or you could have a modified distributor that you remove and replace with the original one at smog time. Some guys used to have an entire intake setup with a different carb (or even dauls) that they would swap on for fun and then convert back to stock at smog time. There's more to getting performance out of your 720 than just bolting on a Weber. 2 Quote Link to comment
cdddt_95
I know there's more than just bolting on a Weber, I just wanted to keep it simple. Any other simple performance modifications? 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
What I meant is that simply bolting on a Weber probably won't be worth the trouble. You won't realize the potential of the Weber without mods to your distributor and possibly also resetting the cam timing. A good exhaust would help too. 1 Quote Link to comment
