620owner
I dropped driveshaft. Removed shifter.Unbolted starter and clutch slave. Getting ready to unbolt tranny and drop cross member. Do I have to unbolt the exhaust ? Looks like plenty of room but not sure if there is enough clearance to firewall ? 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Not much room in there. The tail is above/behind the crossmember so it has to go back, clear the pressure plate and drop down at the front and out. (easy to say) I think I disconnected and set the exhaust over to the side. It can be done by turning it on it's side. My 521 I took the torsion bar out on the driver's side. 2 Quote Link to comment
620owner
OK, wow I was thinking that I could get enough engine tilt to come straight back and out. Wasn't thinking out of clutch plate tilting the front top of the tranny down and out. Humm, I'd better get the exhaust out of the way too. Thought this was going to be a breeze..... 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
IIRC the tail of the transmission sticks out behind/above the cross member that holds the torsion bar anchors. You can't move backwards more than 6-8" but this will allow the front to clear the pressure plate. I did this in a j/y and managed to remove the PP and the flywheel which gave me more room. I was scrounging all this anyway. Quote Link to comment
